Valbo-Ryr kyrka is the youngest of the churches in Munkedal parish, inaugurated in 1903. The church consists of a rectangular nave, an extended chancel, an attached sacristy on the south side of the nave, and a tower to the north. It was built in the Florentine architectural style, designed by Hjalmar Cornielsen.

Originally, the granite walls were intended to remain exposed, but they were rendered over at an early stage. The roof was previously covered with black slate tiles.

A wooden church previously stood at a site called Kyrkerud. That church was judged to be small, cold and draughty, which is why it was decided to build a new one. At the site of the old church by Ryrs säteri, the old churchyard is still preserved, along with a memorial stone raised in 1939 bearing the text: "To the memory of the old church, Valbo-Ryrs församling erected this monument."

This church was built during the 18th century, and previously, according to information, there is said to have been yet another church, on a headland in Viksjön.
