The church was built after Mjöbäck parish received a donation from farmer Fritz Pettersson, the so-called "Finnaboarvet" (the Finnabo inheritance). The church was designed by the architect Nils Halla, who was born in the area. Construction began in 1962 under the leadership of factory owner Nils Andersson, and this "church of gifts" was consecrated by Bishop Bo Giertz on 22 December 1963. The font was donated by Älvsered parish. It is made of granite and was made at the beginning of this century. The organ was built at Tostareds Orgelfabrik.
The bell tower was inaugurated at the same time as the church. It has two bells. The large bell was donated by Alfred Lindqvist and his wife, and the small bell is a gift from the local heritage association.
The altarpiece in the chancel was carved by the well-known artist Eva Spångberg in 1993 and depicts, in the central section, how the Risen Christ made himself known to two disciples in Emmaus: "When he broke the bread they recognised him." The left door depicts the elderly Symeon with the infant Jesus in the temple, and the right door depicts Jesus with Martha and Mary.
