Söndrums kyrka, in Söndrum near Halmstad, is a medieval parish church with roots going back several centuries. Sources differ slightly on when building began, but the earliest work is generally placed in the 1100s or 1200s, with later medieval additions shaping the building visitors see today.

Accounts vary as to the church's earliest history. One local source suggests building work may have started as early as the 1190s, while other records place the original medieval church in the 1200s, likely replacing an earlier wooden church on the site. The nave was extended westward around the middle of the 1300s, whichever earlier date is correct.

The distinctive Gothic cross-vaults seen inside were not part of the original structure; they were added later in the medieval period, with a painted inscription near the vault ribs bearing the date 1428. Before the vaults were built, the church's roof construction would have looked quite different.

The building has been altered substantially over the centuries. A wooden tower is thought to have stood in front of the west gable from around 1728, replaced in 1820 by the cubic stone tower with its shingle-clad spire that still dominates the exterior today, built to designs by a local painter and master builder. A porch was rebuilt at the same time, and the interior was extended westward into the new tower, with a gallery added. Further changes followed in the 1800s and 1900s, including enlarged windows, whitewashing of the interior, a new floor of limestone laid in 1939, and an extension to the porch in 1979 that created a meeting room.

Inside, visitors can see an altarpiece from 1787 by the noted Swedish painter Pehr Hörberg, depicting the deposition of Christ from the cross, and a 17th-century pulpit. The font now in use dates from 1944 and is carved from local Söndrum granite; an older five-sided wooden font is preserved at Halmstad's art museum rather than in the church itself.

The church has had a succession of organs since the 18th century, reflecting changing tastes and technology, and today has both a main organ and a smaller choir organ. Musically minded visitors may find the instruments of interest, though the church's main appeal lies in its long architectural history, from possible 12th-century origins through medieval vaulting to its 19th-century tower.
