Naverstads kyrka: Church in Naverstad-Mo parish

Naverstad church probably dates from the mid-1100s, making it one of the oldest churches in Bohuslän still in use. The church was given a tower on the west gable in 1669, which collapsed due to a local landslide following a storm in 1729. The tower was rebuilt but collapsed again in 1746 following a lightning strike. A free-standing bell tower was then erected near the church instead. Naverstad church's interior is covered by a barrel-vaulted ceiling from the 1730s, which for a long time was covered with an entirely white ceiling panel. During a restoration in 1927-1928, the old ceiling was uncovered along with its beautiful paintings. The church also contains one of Bohuslän's finest wooden sculptures, a Madonna figure from the late 1200s.
