Eftra kyrka lies in Susedalens parish, part of Falkenbergs pastorat in Halland. A church is recorded on this site as far back as the eleventh century, when it was dedicated to the Virgin Mary, though the present building dates from the early nineteenth century.

The nave and sacristy were built between 1822 and 1824 in whitewashed granite, to designs by Carl Gustaf Blom Carlsson of the Överintendentsämbetet, the royal office responsible for public buildings. The interior is an early example, for Halland, of neoclassical decoration, with carving and painting by Peter Hallberg. The chancel has a straight end and is separated from the nave by a triumphal arch, with the sacristy built out behind it.

The tower is older than the rest of the church, dating from 1779 and retained when the new nave was built. It was given its current form, with a curved cupola and lantern, in 1887.

A substantial interior restoration in 1891–1893, led by Adrian Crispin Peterson, introduced a coffered ceiling along with columns, pilasters and an altarpiece in an antiquarian style. This coffered ceiling was later covered over with fibreboard during a 1931 restoration under Axel Forssén, then uncovered again in 1976. The altar wall carries fresco paintings completed in 1962 by Waldemar Lorentzon.

Among the church's furnishings, the granite font stands out as by far the oldest object, dating from the thirteenth century. Only its square bowl survives from that period, decorated with a simple rope moulding; the base is a later replacement. The neoclassical pulpit was built in 1822 to a design by the Stockholm architect J F Weinberg. Two bells hang in the tower, the larger one cast in 1558 and recast in 1771.

The organ, installed in 1931 by Nordfors & Co, has eighteen stops across two manuals and pedal, and was reworked in 1971. Its case, however, is older still, surviving from a previous organ built in 1834 by Johan Nikolaus Söderling.
