Tydje kapell, in Västra Götaland's Dalsland district, occupies a church site that is probably medieval in origin. Though no medieval church survives, the small mortuary chapel and its churchyard preserve the memory of a parish with a long and eventful history.

Tydje was once its own parish, but when a large church was built in the neighbouring parish of Tösse, the two were merged. Records suggest at least three wooden churches stood here over the centuries. One is said to have been burned down by Danish and Norwegian forces during the 17th century, after which a replacement was built.

By the early 1750s this church had fallen into poor condition and was replaced by a new one, consecrated in 1754. Between 1812 and 1848 the building was shared between the parishes of Tösse and Tydje, with the final service reportedly held in October 1848. The old church was demolished the following year, once Tösse's new church was ready to take over. What remains on the site today is the churchyard, a mortuary chapel dating from 1955, and a separate bell tower from around the same period.

Both the chapel and the bell tower were designed by the architect Ärland Noréen. The chapel is a simple, single-room building of brick and natural stone, oriented east-west, with whitewashed walls and a tiled roof. Inside, the walls are also whitewashed and the floor laid with brick tiles. A plain altar stands at the west end, along with an altarpiece and a crucifix, and wooden benches line the walls. Many of the furnishings are said to have been donated by members of the congregation.```

The freestanding bell tower, built to the same architect's design, has sturdy red-painted timber posts on concrete footings and a metal-clad saddle roof with shingled gables. The churchyard itself is enclosed by a dry stone wall and contains a number of notable wrought-iron crosses, a distinctive local craft feature worth pausing to look at.
