Tullstorps kyrka is an unusual 19th-century cross-shaped church in the Söderslätt region of Skåne, designed by Carl Georg Brunius. It stands on a site of ancient significance, having replaced a medieval church that dated back to the 1100s.

The building occupies a prominent spot in the village, on ground that appears to have served as a place of worship for many centuries. Behind the church lies a hill once used for executions into the 1800s, and the churchyard contains a runestone dating from the 1000s, carved with a cross that reflects the transition from Norse paganism to Christianity. The stone was originally built into the wall of the earlier Romanesque church, later moved to the churchyard wall, and now stands free.

The medieval church it replaced was built of grey stone around the end of the 1100s, with a nave, narrower chancel and a semicircular apse. By the 1830s, bishops' visitations found serious structural problems, including cracks in the walls and vaults and a decaying wooden bell tower. The congregation had also outgrown the building: with around 700 parishioners but seating for only 200, the bishop urged the parish to build anew.

The present church was designed by Brunius, a Lund University professor of Greek and self-taught architect who also oversaw restoration work at Lund Cathedral. A forthright critic of the neoclassical churches of his era, he championed instead the Romanesque and Gothic styles of the Middle Ages. His 1844 design, built in red handmade brick with crossed bond, was completed in 1847–48 and consecrated in December 1848. It has four equal square arms and a distinctive octagonal central tower that rises to a point, each face treated as a gable with decorative brickwork; inside, the same tower forms a dome. Light enters through windows in the four cross-arms, and each arm is covered by a rib vault.

Brunius designed the original furnishings himself, including the altarpiece, pulpit and pews, though these were replaced in a similar style during restoration work in 1892 by Henrik Sjöström, who also designed the current chancel screen. The lowered altarpiece allows light from the sacristy windows to reach the chancel. The cruciform plan means the altar cannot be seen from many seats in the transepts — historically the less favoured places, allocated to young people, servants and those of lesser means, while the centrally placed pulpit remained visible to all.

A sandstone font designed by Helgo Zettervall replaced the medieval original in 1876; it bears a Greek cross, a lamb symbolising Christ, a dove representing the Holy Spirit, and the date of its making. The earlier font is now held in the historical museum of Lund University. The church's two bells, one cast in Malmö in 1689 and the other recast in 1789, both came from the bell tower of the earlier church and still hang in the octagonal tower today.
