Tävelsås kyrka is a timber church in Kronoberg county whose earliest origins are medieval, though the present building dates largely from the late 18th century. It is unusual locally for its cruciform plan and distinctive tower, and stands within Växjö diocese.

The church occupies a site with a long history of worship: sources agree an earlier wooden church stood here, though accounts differ on its date, with one describing a stave church from the early Middle Ages and another describing a timber church built in the 1500s. That earlier building was used until 1784, when it was demolished to make way for a new church, built in 1784–85. Timber salvaged from both this church and the demolished church of neighbouring Tofta parish, which merged with Tävelsås in 1785, was reused in the new construction.

The church's freestanding bell tower, originally housing four bells, was moved and incorporated into the west end of the nave in 1797, converting it into the church's tower. A further major rebuilding between 1880 and 1882 extended the church with transepts and an eastern sacristy, giving it the cross-shaped plan and simple, classicising appearance it retains today, with the crossing not visible from outside. The tower carries a helm-shaped roof with a small lantern.

Among the church's furnishings is a processional crucifix said to originate in Limoges, France, dating from the early medieval period, alongside a triumphal crucifix attributed to the 13th century and another crucifix with a 16th-century figure of Christ, its cross added later; both crucifixes are recorded as having come from the former Tofta church. The altarpiece, depicting Christ in Gethsemane, was painted by Pehr Hörberg in 1799, with its surrounding altarpiece framework added during the 1880s renovation. A Baroque altar structure, also transferred from Tofta, and a pulpit in Empire style with a gilded sounding board and symbolic decoration are further notable furnishings, along with an open pew arrangement typical of many Swedish parish churches of the period.

The church has had several organs over the years, the earliest built in 1786 by Pehr Schiörlin of Linköping. A later instrument by the German firm Walcker followed in 1922, and a mechanical organ by Mårtensson's Orgelfabrik was installed in 1962; a further replacement is recorded as having taken place in 2004, retaining the original Schiörlin case front.
