Saxtorps kyrka, south of Landskrona in Skåne, has origins in the 1100s but owes its present appearance largely to a thorough Neo-Romanesque rebuilding of 1860. Inside, medieval vaults and wall paintings survive alongside striking carved stonework.

The church's earliest fabric dates from the twelfth century, when it was built in Romanesque style with a flat timber ceiling. During the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries this was replaced by brick vaulting, which was later decorated with painted patterns. A major nineteenth-century rebuilding removed the medieval chancel, extended the nave eastwards, added a north transept, and completed the tall tower in 1885 — a spire made possible once the old restriction on tall church spires was lifted after lightning conductors became common.

The exterior today shows the round-arched friezes, windows and pilaster strips typical of Neo-Romantic church building, while the interior tells an older story. The nave vaults, dated to the fourteenth century, carry lime-mortar paintings of leaf motifs, stylised trees and lightning-shaped rib decoration, possibly the work of the so-called Snårestad group of painters, whose output is generally dated to around 1325–1350.

A particularly notable survival is the partly preserved Romanesque doorway in the south wall of the nave, finely carved with Anglo-Norman stylistic features and zigzag ornament that has been compared with work at Lund Cathedral and with a portal at Vor Frue Kirke in Aalborg, Denmark. A blocked Romanesque window opening, still visible in the plasterwork of the nave's south wall, is a rare survival of this type in a western gable, matched locally only at Barsebäck church.wa

The font, carved in sandstone in the mid-thirteenth century, is richly decorated with narrative human figures and is considered unusual in design, though it shares some similarities with the font at Höör. A group of sixteenth-century wooden figures — including a Madonna on the crescent moon, a pope with wine jug and chalice, and a saint holding a hand-cross — are thought to have belonged to a former altarpiece, suggesting the parish once had the means to commission an especially fine one; the Apocalyptic Madonna motif recurs in several other churches in Skåne.

Other furnishings include an early medieval triumphal crucifix set in the chancel arch, a pulpit from the early 1600s decorated with figures of the four evangelists, and an altarpiece donated in 1745 depicting scenes from the life of Christ. The two bells were both damaged by fire and recast in the eighteenth century by the Malmö founder Andreas Wetterholtz. The present organ, built in 1955 by the Danish firm Th. Frobenius & Co., replaced an earlier instrument that had itself begun life as a temporary organ transferred from Lund Cathedral in 1876.
