Mockfjärds kyrka stands beside the Västerdalälven, where the river widens into Storfjärden in the village of Mockfjärd, Dalarna. This white timber church dates from 1700, replacing an earlier 1620s chapel on the same site.

The present church was built between 1694 and 1700 to replace a small, ageing knuttimrad (log-built) chapel erected in the 1620s, which had itself grown too small for the parish. The new building is constructed of log timber with boarded exterior walls, a rectangular nave, a straight east end and a west tower, with a sacristy added to the north side later in the 1790s. A distinctive broken roof, hipped over the chancel and clad in tarred wooden shingles, gives the exterior its characteristic silhouette.

The tower was raised in the 1820s to designs attributed to the mining official (bergmästare) Clas Wallman, after which the older freestanding bell frame was demolished and its bells moved into the new tower. Sources note that the tower later proved too weak to bear the strain of bell-ringing, leading to the construction of a new freestanding bell frame in the 1950s. The church's walls, originally red, were repainted white between 1850 and 1870, a colour scheme that has been retained since. A restoration in 1996 saw the windows returned to their historic red colouring and improvements made to insulation.

Inside, the barrel-vaulted nave is lined with painted standing panelling. A major mid-1950s restoration, led by architect Bernhard Schill and conservator Jerk Werkmäster, uncovered earlier wall decoration and the pulpit's original colour scheme, work that shaped much of the interior visitors see today.

Several older fittings have interesting, well-travelled histories. The brown limestone font was carved in the 1600s by the stonemason Simon Hack of Boda and was acquired from Gagnef's church in 1775. The Baroque pulpit, dated to 1690, originally stood in Ludvika chapel before being purchased for Mockfjärd around a century later. The altarpiece, painted on canvas in 1793 by Per Hedendahl and depicting Christ at Gethsemane, hangs alongside an older Baroque altar surround from 1723, displayed on the south wall since the 1950s restoration. Three eighteenth-century chandeliers light the central aisle, complemented by two more added over the gallery in 1996.

The church has had several organs over its history; the current mechanical instrument was built in 1977 by the respected firm Åkerman & Lund of Knivsta, replacing earlier instruments recorded from the nineteenth and mid-twentieth centuries.
