Construction of Kaunisvaara church began in 1962 under architect A. Falkenberg of Finspång, and it was consecrated on Thanksgiving Day, 13 October 1963, by Bishop Ivar Hylander. The frame is of timber. The hipped roofs are clad in eternite. The façades are covered with red-painted wooden panelling. The bell tower is free-standing. The tall roof and upper chancel wall are covered with blue wooden panelling. Pupils of the Pajala trade school made the chandeliers, the church weathercock and the other metal decorations. The bell tower was already built in 1955 by volunteers from the village, and the church bell was donated by the Kaunisvaara sewing circle.
The organ, with pedal coupler, has the following stops: Gedackt 8, Principal 4, Rörflöjt 4, Waldflöjt 2, Cymbel 2 chor, Subbas 16.
