Jällby kyrka is a small, distinctive wooden church standing on a hilltop in Jällby, western Sweden. Its timber origins are unusually old, and the building offers visitors medieval carvings, faded wall paintings and a quietly atmospheric, unlit interior.

Some of the timber in the church's frame has been dated to the 1100s, though sources differ on exactly how the building developed from this early core. One account suggests the original church was roughly square in plan, while dendrochronological analysis reported elsewhere dates the current structure to the 1600s; both may reflect different phases of an evolving building rather than a straightforward contradiction. Whatever its earliest form, the timber church survived at a time when many medieval wooden churches in the region were rebuilt in stone.

The building was extended westwards in 1745, when the small wooden bell tower was also added. A porch followed in 1845, and the church was lengthened again to the east in 1869. Internal boarding was added in 1766, and the following year the artist John Ljung painted a sequence of wall scenes depicting the life of Christ, parts of which survive today, including a depiction of the Book of Seven Seals on the ceiling. Traces of even older paintings, and marks associated with the old folk practice of kindling a protective 'need-fire' by friction at the crossing point of a painted cross, were found on the timbers during repairs in 1869.

The altarpiece, added along with the altar and altar rail in 1870, depicts the Last Supper; tradition holds that Judas is the only figure shown looking directly out at the viewer. The stone font is among the church's oldest furnishings, carved in two parts around 1200 and identifiable as pre-1250 work by its central drainage hole.

Other notable medieval items include a small carved altar cabinet with a Madonna figure, dated to the late 1200s, though the cross now held in her hand is a later addition, and a wooden bishop figure from the 1400s. A silver reliquary found during renovation, now held by the Swedish History Museum in Stockholm, is said by tradition to have contained a bone fragment associated with Saint Birgitta, wrapped in silk and lead; a burial vault was also discovered beneath the floor. The church also owns a medieval incense censer.

The church has no electric lighting apart from a small lamp for the organist, and curtains still hang at the windows, giving the interior a distinctly old-fashioned character.
