Hömbs kyrka, in the parish village of Hömb in Västra Götaland, has roots going back to the early Middle Ages, though repeated rebuilding over the seventeenth to nineteenth centuries has left little trace of its medieval origins. Its present character owes much to later restoration.

An inscription in the sacristy records that in 1715 the church was rebuilt from its foundations, at the expense of Gustaf Hård of Kavlås, the royal master of the horse. According to Wikipedia, Hård financed an eastward extension of some 10.8 metres in return for the right to appoint his own priest, replacing the old chancel and apse and the medieval tower with a bell-frame; this work gave the building a Carolean character.

Between 1882 and 1886, the church was enlarged again, this time under designs attributed to Fredrik Ekholm. A tower was added, the roof raised, windows enlarged and new ones opened, and a heating system installed, giving the interior a lighter, more airy feel. The pulpit was moved to its present position on the north side during this period.

A further restoration in the 1930s, funded by Colonel Carl von Essen and Baroness Ruth von Essen of Kavlås and carried out under architect Göran Pauli, shaped the interior seen today. New pews, an altar rail, part of the gallery, a font, and a triptych altarpiece were introduced, and the ceiling and walls repainted. The altarpiece, painted by Sigrid Oxenstierna, depicts scenes from the life of Christ, with a grisaille scene of soldiers at Golgotha on the outer faces of its doors. The angel above the altarpiece and the candlesticks by the font, carved by Vilhelm Gustafsson, a craftsman on the Kavlås estate, also date from this restoration, as does a Madonna painting behind the font, a gift from the von Essen family.

The pulpit itself dates from the eighteenth century and originally stood behind the altar, serving as both pulpit and altarpiece before being moved to its current position in 1886. It is decorated with carved figures said to represent Moses and John the Baptist, along with three female figures whose meaning remains unclear.

A finely carved manor pew near the chancel was given to Carl von Essen by the parish in gratitude for his patronage; one source notes it was presented to mark his sixtieth birthday. The organ, built in 1923 by Nordfors & Co of Lidköping, has nine stops, and the tower holds two bells, cast in 1853 and 1897.
