Helsjön folkhögskola is a Christian folk high school with a musical focus, set beside the lake of the same name in Horred, western Sweden. Its modest chapel is the main point of interest for visitors curious about the site's spiritual and artistic character.

The school traces its origins not to a church foundation but to a health spa. From the late nineteenth century, the lake's water and mud were believed by local people to have healing properties, and a modest bathing and cure establishment grew up on the site, complete with lodgings, a resident doctor and even a small orchestra for guests. This seasonal spa business continued into the early twentieth century before eventually closing.

In 1949 the property was acquired by a foundation linked to the Diocese of Gothenburg, and the folk high school opened in 1953, still making use of some of the old spa buildings. Today it offers general courses and a well-established music programme, alongside shorter courses on churchly and other themes, reflecting its dual Christian and musical identity.

The school's chapel dates from 1995. Its altar window is set with a crucifix made by the artist Eva Spångberg in 1974, originally created for a "crypt" space used by the school before the current chapel was built. The crucifix's earlier setting and its move to the chapel window give it a modest but distinctive history within the school's own story.

Local tradition also recalls older, folkloric beliefs attached to the lake itself, including a tale of a woman said to have been seen sitting on the water holding a snake, an event popularly thought to recur only once a century. Such stories, recorded in nineteenth-century local histories, form part of the site's character even though they lie outside any formal church history.
