The story of Grisbackakyrkan begins before the present building existed. In 1921 a group calling itself the Grisbacka Kristliga Missions- och Ungdomsförening (Grisbacka Christian Mission and Youth Association) was formed, with members initially meeting in the home of the association's chairman. A prayer house was inaugurated in 1936, and this building was later extended on several occasions.
The church as it stands today was formally inaugurated in 1980 by Bishop Olaus Brännström, becoming a district church within Umeå landsförsamling (parish). Since that year it has operated as a shared church between the EFS (Evangelical National Mission) and the Church of Sweden, a partnership that continues to shape its identity.
Further additions followed, including a church hall and offices built in 1997, while the main church interior was renovated in 2008. A free-standing bell tower dating from the early 1980s stands near the church.
