Farhults kyrka is an unusually well-preserved Romanesque church in Skåne, built in grey fieldstone with dressed sandstone corner quoins around the turn of the twelfth to thirteenth century. Its medieval wall paintings and later fittings make it of particular historical and artistic interest.

The church consists of a nave and a narrower chancel to the east, ending in a semicircular apse, with a west tower featuring stepped gables. During the later fifteenth century brick vaults were added to the nave and chancel, replacing the original flat ceiling, and the small medieval windows were bricked up. The tower itself also dates from this century, and traces of an external stair turret, later removed in favour of an internal staircase, survive in the building's history.

The most striking feature for visitors is the chancel's apse painting, dated by art-historical experts to the first quarter of the fourteenth century. It shows Christ in Majesty (Majestas Domini) enthroned on a rainbow, holding the book of life in one hand with the other raised in blessing, flanked by the sun and moon and enclosed within an oval mandorla. Surrounding this are the symbols of the four evangelists, though only the lion of St Mark survives in reasonably good condition; fragments of the eagle of St John can also be traced. Above the mandorla, against a red background, is a depiction of the Tree of Knowledge in Eden with Adam and Eve on either side, while higher still in the vault appear the figures of St Olof and St Laurence with their attributes, and two female saints, Dorothea and Margaret. A row of apostle figures is thought to have once existed here too, but these have since been lost.

The paintings were uncovered during a major restoration in 1953 led by cathedral architect Eiler Græbe, working with conservator Hans Erlandsson of Lund. That same restoration introduced new pews modelled on older designs, a new floor, and a new altar table and rail. The church's exterior has remained largely unchanged since alterations in the 1870s, when the windows were enlarged to their present size; an earlier change in 1838 saw the southern porch removed and a new entrance opened in the tower's west wall.

Among the furnishings, the oak triumphal crucifix dates from the later fifteenth century, and the pulpit is a Baroque piece from 1626. The altarpiece, from the eighteenth century, sits within a seventeenth-century altar surround. A medieval font was at some point disposed of; the current one dates from 1938, though its accompanying font dish is thought to be sixteenth century.

The present organ, built in 1916 by Eskil Lundén of Gothenburg, is considered both historically and musically significant. It is a mechanical instrument with pneumatic wind-chests, and, reflecting the metal shortages of its time, contains more wooden components than would normally be expected; its facade was designed by Gustaf Holmdahl.
