Älvsereds kyrka, a white timber church in Falkenberg Municipality, was built in 1836–1837 to designs by Theodor Edberg and consecrated on 2 December 1838 by Sven Johan Meuller, the parish's vicar at the time. It replaced an earlier wooden church nearby.

The church stands on a hill in the village of Toppered, having succeeded an older timber church close to the Högvadsån river, roughly two kilometres to the south. That earlier building, whose painted ceiling and pulpit were lost when it was demolished, held its last service on 9 October 1836; the site is now marked by a memorial stone and occasionally used for open-air services.

The present building was constructed by master builder Johannes Pettersson from Sandhult parish and is a fine example of neoclassical style: a single-nave hall church with a five-sided chancel to the east, a west tower with lantern and dome, and large round-arched windows along its five bays. The exterior is unusually well preserved, retaining its original panelling and carefully detailed door and window surrounds. Pettersson went on to build four further, nearly identical churches elsewhere in the region.

Among the furnishings, the font is an unusual composite piece, its granite bowl and darker stone base apparently brought together from two separate medieval fonts. The pulpit, made in 1836 by one of the local Mjöbäck craftsmen, survives with its original paintwork of white, blue-grey and gold. The current altarpiece, depicting the theme 'Suffer the children to come unto me', dates from 1921 and replaced an earlier cross-and-shroud arrangement.

Perhaps the most distinctive feature is a bell hanging in the tower, said to be among the oldest church bells still in use in Sweden. Attributed to the medieval bell-founder Håkan and thought to date from around the 14th century, it carries a runic inscription along with the founder's mark. A second, smaller bell was acquired in 1875 from Mårdaklev church, having originally belonged to a 17th-century church demolished around that time.

The church's organ has been rebuilt more than once; the current instrument dates from 1964, but the organ case itself was installed in 1890 together with an earlier secondhand pipe organ originally built for Okome church in 1864.
