The church was built to designs by the architect Jerk Alton and was consecrated on 26 June 2005 by Bishop Carl Axel Aurelius, making it one of the more recently built churches in the region. Its interior is distinguished by an unusual eight-sided (octagonal) plan, giving the worship space a compact, gathered feel rather than the traditional long nave arrangement.
Behind the altar, a large window holds a stained-glass depiction of Jacob's Ladder, drawn from the Book of Genesis, filling the chancel with coloured light. Above the altar hangs an icon cross, and to its left stands a processional cross, both serving as focal points for worship within the otherwise simple, modern interior.
As a twenty-first-century building, Sollyckans kyrka offers visitors a contrast to Sweden's many medieval parish churches, illustrating how contemporary Swedish congregations continue to commission new places of worship suited to present-day community life.
