On Sunday 9 September 1973 the church, designed by the architect John Snis, was consecrated.
The altarpiece, in the form of a triptych, was created by the artist Hjalmar Ekberg. At its centre we see the welcoming Christ, surrounded by people in various life situations. The relief emphasises that the invitation is extended to everyone, regardless of age, nationality or social status. On the left we find symbols of the Word, baptism and Holy Communion, and on the right – love and mercy.
During Lent – the 40 days before Easter – the altarpiece is folded closed. Three images then meet us: Jesus's entry into Jerusalem, riding on the animal of peace, the donkey; further on, the struggle in prayer in the garden of Gethsemane the evening before what the right-hand relief depicts – the crucifixion.
At Hjällbo Church there is also the pastorate's administrative building, with workspaces for management and administration.
Size: Hjällbo Church seats 200 people during worship services, and the parish hall holds 70 people.
