Vittsjö kyrka stands on a prominent, elevated site at the heart of Vittsjö, a small settlement north of Hässleholm in Skåne. Its long history and gradually altered fabric make it a rewarding stop for visitors interested in the layered development of Swedish parish churches.

The church's origins lie in the late 12th century, when a nave with a narrower, longer chancel and an eastern apse was built of grey fieldstone. This medieval core still forms the heart of the building. In the 15th century the interior was given cross vaults, adding structural character to the originally simpler roof.

The building was extended over the following centuries. A north aisle was added in 1772, broadening the interior, and in 1828 a sturdy tower with a lantern was raised, giving the church its present silhouette. Two years later, in 1830, a semicircular sacristy was built onto the east end of the chancel.

Inside, several older fittings survive alongside later additions. A stone font dating from the 1100s, made in two parts, is among the oldest objects in the church. A triumphal crucifix from around 1500 and an altarpiece with pulpit from about 1590 point to a significant late-medieval and early post-Reformation phase of furnishing. The tower bells include a large bell cast in 1922 and a smaller one dating from the 1500s.

In 1938 the artist Hugo Gelin contributed decorative work to the church, including a stained-glass window in the sacristy and paintings on the side gallery, adding a 20th-century artistic layer to the older structure.

The church has had a series of organs. An early instrument was built by Johan Lambert Larsson of Ystad, followed by a thirteen-stop organ from Eskil Lundén of Gothenburg in 1911, which reused and slightly altered the earlier façade. The current mechanical organ, built in 1976 by Gunnar Carlsson of Borlänge, still incorporates the older Larsson façade, linking the instrument visually to its predecessors.
