Verums kyrka stands prominently above the Viå valley in Skåne. This parish church, with roots reaching back to the 1100s or 1200s, is known both for its historic role in a moment of Swedish sovereignty and for a much more recent, famous wedding.

The church consists of a nave with a narrower, lower chancel and an apse to the east, a tower to the west, and a transept to the north entered through a porch. The oldest parts of the building are variously dated to the late 1100s or the 1200s, originally comprising simply a nave and chancel. A porch with a south entrance was added in the late medieval period.

The building changed considerably over the centuries. In 1807–1808 a north transept was added, and a further major rebuilding in 1837 saw a semicircular sacristy built onto the east end, while an old round-arched window in the east wall of the chancel was retained. At the same time the medieval south porch was demolished and the main entrance moved to the west end. The most dramatic transformation came in 1911–1913, when the diocesan architect Theodor Wåhlin extended the church westward and added the tower, replacing an old timber bell house; the small 1589 bell was moved into the new tower alongside a newly cast, larger bell. A further restoration followed in 1949 under architect Eiler Græbe.

Among the church's furnishings is an incense burner of bronze, said to be the oldest item in the collection, its lid decorated with a hexagonal, spire-topped tower. The pulpit was donated in 1702 and painted by Erik Degelier of Kristianstad, carved with figures of the evangelists; it replaced an earlier pulpit. The font, carved from soapstone, dates from 1912 and bears a biblical inscription, while its accompanying brass basin is older, from 1631.//An earlier altarpiece, made by Johan Ullberg in 1757, is carved in wood with twisted columns flanking a depiction of the Last Supper and flanked by female figures; it now hangs in the north transept beside the font. A triumphal crucifix on a beam, made in Denmark in 1912, hangs in the chancel arch, and the altar holds an ebony cross set with silver and rock crystal, given to the church in 1966.

The present organ was built in 1913 by A. Magnussons Orgelbyggeri of Gothenburg and later revised in 1953.

According to Wikipedia, in 1677, during the period of Sweden's consolidation of control over the newly acquired province of Skåne, a speech was reportedly given on the churchyard hill urging local farmers to sign an oath of allegiance to the Swedish crown, which several of them are said to have done. The church is also noted as the site of the 1971 wedding of Abba members Agnetha Fältskog and Björn Ulvaeus, a claim repeated widely but not independently verified here.
