Väse kyrka is one of Värmland's largest churches, standing three kilometres north of the village of Väse. It replaced an older stone church, possibly of medieval origin, whose site and traditions it inherited.

The earlier church in Wäsehärad had become too small by the mid-eighteenth century, prompting construction of a new building in 1760–62, reputedly to designs by the architect Johan Eberhard Carlberg. The old stone church's tower was initially retained and joined to the new structure, but it was later taken down and replaced by the present tower, completed in 1794.

The church takes the form of a broad nave with a five-sided chancel end, an extended sacristy to the east and the tower to the west. The exterior has changed little since then, while the interior reflects a thorough restoration carried out in 1955, when new pews were fitted, limestone floors laid in the chancel and porch, and a bridal chamber created beneath the gallery. The ceiling is covered by a pale-painted wooden barrel vault.

Several fittings were carried over from the old stone church. The Baroque altarpiece is said to have been made in 1696 by a craftsman known as "master Gabriel" of Kristinehamn, and the pulpit dates from 1704, attributed to Börje Löfman. Both were returned to their original polychrome colouring during the twentieth-century restoration.

The font, carved from sandstone, is considerably older than the rest of the furnishings, dating from the 1100s. It is said to have been donated to the church in the 1600s by an inspector named Nils Carlbom, and is of a type otherwise rare in Värmland, its closest parallels being found in Västergötland.

Beneath the chancel lies the Soop-Sparre family burial vault, continuing a position it had already held beneath the chancel of the earlier church. The main organ was built in 1858 by Johan Niklas Söderling, with a smaller chancel organ added in 1980.
