Uvereds kyrka, in the south-west of Lidköping municipality, is said to have had two earlier predecessors on a nearby site, the first dating from the 1200s and burned down by a Danish force in 1612. The present stone church stands 400 metres from that original location.

According to local sources, the first medieval church at Uvered was destroyed by Danish troops in 1612. A new timber church was raised by parishioners in 1647, with a rectangular nave, a narrower and lower chancel to the east, a porch, and a broad low west tower topped with an octagonal spire. This wooden building survived until 1840, when it was demolished, reportedly because it had fallen into poor condition and was too small for the congregation.

The present church was built in stone during 1840–1841, to designs by the architect Jacob Wilhelm Gerss and under the direction of master builder Peter Pettersson of Sandhult. It was sited some 400 metres from the abandoned churchyard where its wooden predecessors are believed to have stood; a memorial stone now marks that earlier location. The building is described as a restrained example of the neoclassical Empire style, with well-balanced proportions typical of the period.

In 1907 the church underwent a thorough renovation of both exterior and interior, following a scheme drawn up by the architect Sigge Cronstedt, during which much of the fixed furnishings were newly made. The altarpiece, painted in 1887 by Sven Linderoth, and a wooden font made in 1907 to designs by the joiner Johansson of Järpås, both belong to this later phase of the church's life. The pulpit, restored in 1907, is thought to have been carried over from the earlier timber church.

The organ, standing on the west gallery, was built in 1883 by Johan Anders Johansson of Mösseberg and later restored in 1975 and again in 2004. Its case, however, is older still, dating from an 1862 organ by Johan Nikolaus Söderling — a reminder of how instruments and their cabinets were sometimes handed down between rebuildings.
