Tveta kyrka stands on a hillside near Tveta manor, just outside Södertälje, with views over Lake Måsnaren and surrounding fields and meadows. Its oldest masonry dates back to the late 13th century, making it one of the area's older parish churches.

The church began as a simple, rectangular single-nave hall church with a sacristy to the north, built around the end of the 1200s. In the first half of the 15th century a west tower was added, which still houses the main entrance; its distinctive spire dates from 1742 and was built by Lars Ersson. The porch on the south side dates from the early 1500s.

A significant change came in 1907, when architect Sigfrid Cronstedt extended the church eastward, adding the present straight-ended chancel in a style intended to match the older walls. At the same time, stained glass by Albert Eldh was installed in the east window.

Inside, the nave is covered by cross vaults dating from the early 1600s, while the chancel vaults, built in a similar style, date from the 1907 extension. The current pews largely date from a 1949 restoration. A further restoration in 1994, led by architect Björn Norman, saw some pew rows removed to enlarge the choir area, with loose chairs used to replace them in part.

The organ was built in 1953 by the Olof Hammarberg firm of Gothenburg and has 14 stops; its case reuses the façade of an earlier organ built in 1875. After 1971, a small freestanding glazed building was erected to the west as a waiting room for services, linked to the porch by an internal staircase. The church received a new altar at the end of 2002, made by Lennart Lindqvist of Enhörna.
