Söderfors kyrka stands in the ironworking village of Söderfors, west of Tierp, and serves the Tierp-Söderfors parish. Built in the late eighteenth century, it is a notable example of Swedish neoclassical church architecture, prominently sited at the end of the village's main street.

The architect Erik Palmstedt designed an earlier church for the site, known today only through a surviving wooden model, before producing the design for the present building. Construction took place between 1789 and 1792, replacing an older cruciform church that had burned down in 1789. The new church was funded entirely by the ironworks owner Adolf Ulric Grill and was consecrated on 30 September 1792 by Archbishop Uno von Troil.

The building is constructed of brick and consists of a rectangular nave orientated east–west. Unusually, the tower stands at the eastern end and the chancel at the western end, the reverse of the arrangement found in most churches. The tower is crowned by a glazed lantern shaped like a small round temple, a distinctive feature of the exterior.

Inside, visitors can see a font made in 1957 and three chandeliers dating from the later nineteenth century, gifts from parishioners and from the ironworks owner Gustaf Östberg. Three bells hang in the tower, the oldest cast in 1772. Since 1971 the north wall of the nave has displayed an altarpiece depicting the Resurrection of Christ, a free copy by Anna Matilda Forssenius of Fredric Westin's altarpiece in Kungsholm Church in Stockholm; this painting served as the church's main altarpiece from 1855 until 1945.

The church has an organ with a history of rebuilding: an instrument was built in 1872 by Åkerman & Lund, and much of its pipework and façade were reused when the firm's successor built a new pneumatic organ in 1933, later modified in 1989.

The churchyard is enclosed by a symmetrical wrought-iron spear fence with tall metal-clad columns flanking the main entrance. To the west of the church stands a mortuary chapel, built to designs by the same architect and from the same period as the church itself.
