Skummeslövs kyrka is one of Halland's oldest and best-preserved medieval churches, believed to have been built in the 12th century on a site with traces of activity stretching back to the Stone Age. Standing near Skottorp in Laholm municipality, it retains much of its original Romanesque character.

The church occupies ground long associated with settlement and ritual, with archaeological traces from the Stone Age, Bronze Age, Iron Age and the Viking-era mission period of the 800s. The earliest surviving written reference to the church itself dates from 6 May 1340, though the building is thought to be older still.

Built of grey stone, later whitewashed, the church follows a simple Romanesque plan: a nave with a rounded chancel and apse, covered by vaulted ceilings, with a triumphal arch dividing nave from chancel. This medieval layout survives largely intact, with later alterations to the interior kept to a minimum. The west tower, matching the nave in width, was added at a later date; it originally had stepped gables but received its present onion-shaped dome, an octagonal lantern and spire in 1774. Brick cross-vaulting survives in the tower's lower storey, while the upper structure is timber.

Beneath the floor lie burial vaults, including that of the Danish noble family Brahe, who owned the nearby manor of Rännenäs; a grave slab bearing monkish script and dated 1416 marks their chamber. The churchyard wall itself incorporates courses of medieval brick, some of monastic origin.

Among the furnishings, a striking baptismal font carved in three parts around 1200 stands out for its well-preserved, unadorned granite form. The altar holds a carved altarpiece that is a copy of the church's original medieval one, sold away in 1869; the genuine medieval oak altarpiece, dated to the early 1500s and depicting a mass presided over by Pope Gregory with Christ appearing on the altar, has been kept at Lund University's historical museum since 1913. A wooden sculpture of the Virgin Mary, dated to the early 1300s, is also among the church's treasures. The larger of the two bells was cast in 1460 and dedicated to the Virgin Mary.

The church organ has a layered history: an instrument by Johan Nikolaus Söderling was installed in 1846, followed by a new pneumatic organ built in 1937 by the Danish firm Th. Frobenius & Co., with further rebuilding in 1958.
