Skrea kyrka, the parish church of Skrea in Halland, was built in 1855–56 to replace a medieval predecessor, probably dating from the 1200s, which had itself been enlarged in 1797. The present building reflects the rapid population growth of the 19th-century parish.

The medieval church that once stood here was built of granite and had a Romanesque plan, with a rectangular nave, narrower chancel, a porch to the south and a wooden tower to the west. It was extended eastward in 1797, and when the present church was built the old one was demolished; traces of its foundations and a brick chancel floor can still be found in the southwest corner of the churchyard. Local tradition records that the old church was in good repair when it came down; the rebuilding seems to have been driven by the need for more seating rather than decay, after the parish population had risen to around 1,100 by 1830.

The new church, completed in 1855–56 to designs associated with the Överintendentsämbetet (the crown building office), was built in a restrained neoclassical style. It has a rectangular nave with a three-sided chancel to the east and a west tower, its walls of whitewashed granite pierced by round-arched windows and encircled by a bold entablature. The tower is decorated with blind arcading and dentil ornament and is topped by an octagonal, copper-clad lantern with a short spire, added during renovation work in 1908–09. Construction moved quickly, with the shell largely finished within about a year, though the decorative interior painting was not completed until 1865 and was later restored in 1971. The barrel-vaulted ceiling still carries this early 20th-century decorative scheme. Building material and stone were partly reused from the old church, supplemented with new stone from nearby quarries, while timber was floated down the Ätran river from Västergötland. The building master is named as Anders Johansson of Slätteryd, with the design credited elsewhere to the architect Johan Fredrik Åbom.

Few older fittings survive, most having been lost during rebuilding or repairs over the centuries. The most notable exception is the font, dated 1587, whose bowl sits on a base incorporating part of a limestone font from the 1300s. Of the two bells in the tower, one is thought to date from the 1400s or 1500s. A communion chalice of uncertain but apparently considerable age is also kept in the church, though not all the surviving communion vessels are believed to be of the same date.

More recent additions include a pair of icons beneath the gallery, painted by Erland Forsberg, depicting Christ blessing the children and the Mother of God of Tenderness. The church has had more than one organ: an instrument of 1872 was replaced in 1958 by a new organ, later rebuilt, and a smaller mechanical organ was installed near the chancel in the late 1970s.
