The church was built to designs by the architect Åke Lundberg. It is constructed of timber, with façades of white-painted standing wooden panels and a broken, mansard-style roof covered in tarred wood, a form well suited to the heavy snows of this inland Lapland district.
An unusual feature is the church's orientation: rather than facing the traditional east, it faces north. This is said to have been a deliberate choice, allowing sunlight to enter through the single altar window on the eastern side and giving worshippers a striking view towards the Marsfjället mountain.
The altarpiece is an unfinished painting by Kalle Hedberg, left incomplete for reasons not recorded in the sources consulted. The church bell was at first only on loan from Vilhelmina församling; following a local fundraising effort, Saxnäs acquired its own bell, consecrated in 1963.
The organ, built in 1969 by Grönlunds Orgelbyggeri of Gammelstad, is a small mechanical instrument of six stops, standing in the choir.
