The first service was held in 1822 on Midsummer's Eve. In the early 1930s the church was due to undergo extensive renovation. But fate had other plans. During the night of 5 March 1932, the church burned down to its foundations.
The current church was consecrated in 1934 and services have been celebrated there every weekend ever since. The church seats approximately 350 people and is approved for 600.
