Sandseryds kyrka, standing at the heart of Sandseryd, is one of the oldest buildings in its parish. Parts of the present stone church are thought to date back to the fourteenth century, and its weathered fabric, old ironwork and signs of past fires and repairs speak of centuries of use.

The church consists of a rectangular nave with a straight-ended chancel wall to the east. Its walls have witnessed troubled times: bullet holes in the old oak church door are said to survive as a visible reminder of past unrest, and the building was damaged by fire in both 1645 and 1706. A sacristy was added on the north side in 1645, and a porch was built to the west in 1706. The interior, of the plain hall-church type, has a flat wooden ceiling that was decorated with paintings after the 1706 fire.

A free-standing timber bell tower north-west of the church dates from 1721. It is clad in wooden panelling and topped with a curved roof, a tall spire and a weathercock in the shape of a cockerel.

Among the church's furnishings is a communion vessel originally made for Vejlby church in Jutland, Denmark, in 1650, said to have been taken as war booty in 1657. The pulpit, in a rounded neoclassical style with gilded symbols representing Faith, Hope and Love, dates from the nineteenth century, while the font was made in 1934. The altarpiece, depicting the Sermon on the Mount, was painted in 1934 by the artist Georg Pauli, based on a sketch by his son, the city architect Göran Pauli.

The organ has a layered history: an early pneumatic instrument was built in 1911 by Eskil Lundén of Gothenburg, later reworked by Danish and Swedish organ builders, before the present two-manual, fifteen-stop organ was built by Tostareds Kyrkorgelfabrik in 1997. Its gallery is supported by six forged pillars made of local Taberg iron, a nod to the district's ironworking heritage.
