Persnäs kyrka is a medieval church on the island of Öland, notable for its distinctive twin-tower construction and a carved stone slab, thought to bear a sundial or scratch-dial, beside the south entrance. Inside, visitors will find a mix of medieval carvings and striking mid-20th-century additions.

The church was built in the early to mid-1100s as a simple nave, chancel and apse. A powerful west tower was added between about 1170 and 1240, and an east tower followed during the 1200s, giving the building its unusual double-tower form, known as a klövsadelkyrka. Only the west tower survives from this arrangement; the chancel and transepts seen today date from 1857.

By the mid-1800s the congregation had outgrown the old building, and plans were drawn up for a replacement. The architect Carl-Gustaf Blom-Carlsson instead proposed enlarging the existing church, widening the transepts. Work began in 1856, but during the demolition of the old transepts the east tower collapsed. Rebuilding it was judged too costly, so the parish was permitted to build a new chancel to the east instead.

A further, more radical transformation of the interior took place in 1959–1960 under architect Carl Hampus Bergman. New rooms, including a sacristy and meeting spaces, were created in the transepts, the chancel was deepened, and older fittings such as an eighteenth-century altarpiece and a nineteenth-century altar painting were removed to make way for a new stone altar and a triptych by the artist Hans Fagerström of Halmstad.

Despite these changes, a number of striking medieval and early-modern objects remain. These include a north German triumphal crucifix from the late 1400s, a fifteenth-century Madonna figure, a wooden Saint Olof carved in northern Germany, and a font of Gotland limestone dated to the second half of the 1200s, a so-called paradise font with carved relief decoration.

Among the more personal items are two votive ship models: one depicting the barque Gambäta, given to the church in 1877 by Andreas Nilsson, and a four-masted barque model donated a century later by a former seaman. The church's organ has a long history too, with instruments recorded from the 1600s onward; the present mechanical organ, built in 1962, stands behind the case of an eighteenth-century predecessor.
