Öveds kyrka, one of Sweden's most distinctive Rococo churches, stands near Övedsklosters slott in Skåne. Built in the second half of the 18th century, it replaced a medieval stone church on the same site at a time when very few churches were being built in the region.

The present church was constructed between 1759 and 1761, after Hans Ramel bought the Övedskloster estate in 1753. Known to posterity as a prolific builder of country houses (he was nicknamed "Bygge-Hans"), Ramel commissioned the church, like the adjoining manor house, from the architect Carl Hårleman, who died before the purchase was even completed. Later work, including the interior, was carried out by Carl Fredrik Adelcrantz and Jean Eric Rehn, both leading architects of the period, while Olof Tempelman designed the gallery and organ façade in 1807.

The brick-built church has no tower and is notable for its airy, stylistically unified Rococo interior, with the fittings designed to match. Rehn is credited with the pulpit design. A painting in the gallery, inspired by Caravaggio and executed in bitumen-based paint, has darkened considerably over time.

On the north side of the church lies the Lewenhaupt-Ramel burial vault, where Hans Ramel and his wife are buried, with the family's private gallery situated above. Several members of the Ramel family are buried in the churchyard nearby, mostly beneath white marble headstones.

The communion chalice dates from 1761 and was made by Gustaf Stafhell (called "the younger" in one source), regarded as one of the foremost silversmiths of the Rococo period, who also worked for the royal silver chamber. The organ was built in 1806 by the Stockholm organ builder Olof Schwan and has been altered and repaired several times since, most recently restored and brought back into use in 2022.

A striking, if grim, story is associated with the family history connected to the estate. Charles Emil Lewenhaupt, a former owner of Övedskloster in the 1740s, was executed in Stockholm in 1742 as a scapegoat following a lost battle in Finland, alongside General Henrik Magnus von Buddenbock. When estate servants were sent to retrieve his body for a proper burial, they mistakenly returned with the wrong head; a second journey corrected the error, and Lewenhaupt was eventually laid to rest in the family grave at the old Öved church, which still survives.

Approached along a long avenue, the church is flanked by two white two-storey buildings dating from 1810, originally a school and a poorhouse, now used for other parish purposes.
