Österängskyrkan is a mid-twentieth-century church serving the Österängen district of Jönköping. Built in the early 1960s with a focus on young families and, later, music teaching, it remains a lively venue for community and cultural gatherings today.

The church was designed by the architect Johannes Olivegren and constructed from concrete, a material typical of the period's ecclesiastical architecture. It was consecrated on the first Sunday of Advent in 1961. Unusually, the building's layout reverses the traditional arrangement: the chancel is placed to the west, while the entrance and congregational spaces occupy the position more commonly reserved for the chancel. The plan is formed from two overlapping triangles, offset slightly from one another, giving the building an unconventional silhouette that has been likened by one architectural study to an ocean liner under way.

Inside, the furnishings reflect the work of several Swedish artists and craftspeople active in the mid-twentieth century. The stained glass windows were created by Ralph Bergholtz and Randi Fisher, while a woven wall hanging was produced by Inga-Mi Vannérus-Rydgran. The altar is of granite and bears a bronze crucifix, and the font is also carved from granite. The church bells were cast by the founders M & O Ohlsson.

The organ has an interesting history: the original instrument, built in 1961 by Nordfors & Co of Lidköping, was removed in 1966 and relocated to the chancel of Kristine kyrka in Jönköping. It was replaced the same year by a new mechanical organ, also built by Nordfors & Co, which remains in the church.

According to Svenska kyrkan, in its early decades the congregation placed particular emphasis on work with children and families, and later on musical education, themes reflected in surviving photographs of confirmation classes from the 1960s. The church continues to be described as a meeting point for cultural exchange within its parish.
