Norra Vånga kyrka stands in Vara kommun, Västra Götaland, on the site of an earlier Romanesque church. The present building, designed by Johan Adolf Hawerman, was completed in 1876 and sits within a churchyard rich in older, sometimes pre-Christian, associations.

The medieval stone church that once stood here was demolished to make way for the current building, which was constructed in 1876 by master builder Anders Pettersson of Värsås to designs by Johan Adolf Hawerman. It follows a Latin cross plan, with white-rendered walls set off by decorative yellow brick, and a tall tower that acts as a landmark in the surrounding landscape. The interior is said to have retained much of its original character since construction.

Several notable medieval objects associated with the church have been moved to the Västergötland Museum, including a wooden sculpture of St Peter known locally as the "Corn God of Norra Vånga", dating from the late 1200s and once credited with miraculous powers; it was reportedly carried in procession over the fields as late as 1826, long before the present church existed. A seated oak Madonna sculpture from around 1200 and a 13th-century font are also held there. A separate font, a Nuremberg-style brass basin from the late 1400s, remains associated with the church itself, though sources vary slightly on the exact dating and type of the fonts described.//The church also holds a medieval Gothic-style chalice, and two bells thought to be late medieval, though they carry no inscriptions to confirm this.//The church has two organs: a 19th-century instrument built in 1879 by Salomon Molander & Co of Gothenburg, standing on the west gallery with a partly functioning historic façade, and a smaller 1961 choir organ in the south side chapel.

One of Sweden's oldest rune stones, dated to the early 6th century, stands near the old rectory, now a private residence; it was formerly built into the church wall until it was removed (Wikipedia gives 1936 as the date of removal). A second rune stone stands close to the church itself, near a gateway leading down towards the Jungfru Marie källa, a spring long associated with pre-Christian offerings of coins and bread, traditionally made at midsummer to ensure a good harvest. Visitors should note that the ground around the spring can be uneven and boggy, and the water is not for drinking.

The churchyard lies mainly to the south of the church; its oldest dated gravestone is from the early 1800s. Among those buried here is the naturalist Leonard Gyllenhaal, and some graves now have QR codes offering further information.
