Mattmars kyrka stands in Mattmar, Jämtland, with the surrounding mountains forming a striking backdrop. This medieval parish church traces its origins to a wooden predecessor and now serves the Västra Storsjöbygden parish within the Diocese of Härnösand.

The present stone church was built sometime in the 14th century, replacing an earlier stave church that had stood on the same site since the late 11th century before burning down in the early 1300s. The building consists of a nave with a three-sided chancel to the east, a sacristy attached to the north side of the chancel, and a porch at the western end. Medieval masonry survives in the western, southern and northern walls of the nave, and all sections of the building have whitewashed walls and shingled roofs.

The church has been altered several times over the centuries. In 1701 a wooden porch was added at the west gable, becoming the main entrance, while the earlier south-wall doorway was replaced with a window. During the 1760s the church was extended eastward, gaining its current three-sided chancel end, and a separate sacristy was built against the north wall. A new timber porch went up in 1887–88, and the present stone porch dates from 1938.

Inside, the pulpit dates from 1662, and the font, of a type associated with Jämtland, was acquired in 1686. Carved from a single tree trunk, it features gilded and green vine clusters winding around the stem and six angel heads on the bowl. Among the church's older treasures is a late-medieval sculpture of Saint Anne carved by Haaken Gulleson, depicting Anne with her daughter Mary and the infant Jesus — one of eight medieval sculptures held by the church.

In the churchyard stands a separate bell tower, built in 1765 by master builder Pehr Olofsson, replacing an earlier structure from 1732. It was restored in 2004, when its ochre, red and white colour scheme was reinstated. Two bells hang within it: the smaller was recast in 1750 and the larger in 1803. A lychgate in the eastern churchyard wall is thought to date from the 18th century, and nearby stands a timber tithe barn.
