Målilla kyrka, sometimes known as Målilla-Gårdveda kyrka, stands in the parish of Aspeland in Kalmar county, Småland. Built in the early 1820s to serve two neighbouring communities, it replaced older wooden churches that had fallen into disrepair.

The story of this church begins with the merger of the parishes of Målilla and Gårdveda in 1800, following a bishop's visitation in 1768 that condemned both parishes' timber churches as dilapidated. Since the two churches stood only a couple of kilometres apart, it was agreed that a single, shared church should be built at Målilla, though residents of Gårdveda later had second thoughts and were reluctant to contribute building stone.

Royal approval for the union of the parishes was not granted until October 1800, and the project then faced years of revision. Early ambitions for a church seating as many as 2,000 people, including proposals for a round or octagonal building, were scaled back repeatedly for financial and practical reasons, eventually settling on a design intended to hold around 800 worshippers.

Construction finally began in June 1820 under master builder Johan Holmberg of Linköping, with parishioners supplying timber and stone and contributing thousands of days of unpaid labour. The church was completed within two years, and its first sermon was preached on All Saints' Day in November 1822, though the formal consecration by a bishop did not take place until 1824. As no organ had yet been installed, hymns at that first service were reportedly led by a military band.

The building is a neoclassical hall church with a barrel-vaulted timber ceiling and tall round-arched windows, a west tower and an attached sacristy to the east — a simple, well-proportioned example of early nineteenth-century Swedish church architecture.

Among the furnishings, the altarpiece is a twentieth-century oil painting by Einar Forseth, drawing on the Sermon on the Mount and the Gospel of John. The font, designed by Evert Milles and carved in grey granite, depicts Christ blessing the children. The church also retains bells with much older origins: the great bell dates back to 1601, though it was recast in the twentieth century, while an older bell from the 1660s, later replaced, is preserved in the porch. The organ has origins in an eighteenth-century instrument, later rebuilt and restored several times, with a small chancel organ added in the 1980s.
