Set among trees in the churchyard at Lyviken, near Ludvika, Lyvikskapellet is a small early twentieth-century chapel that serves as the focal point of this quiet burial ground. Its distinctive brick design and modest but carefully considered details reward a closer look.

The chapel was built in 1921 to designs by the architect Fredrik Falkenberg, and was consecrated on Sunday 29 October 1922 by the provost Anders Magnevill of Grangärde. It was later altered in 1958 under the direction of architect Peter Celsing, though the nature of that work is not detailed in the sources available.

Constructed of brick beneath a roof of red tiles, the chapel has a simple rectangular nave, oriented with its entrance to the north-east and the chancel to the south-west. Above the entrance rises a narrow, pointed spire, said to be gilded, giving the otherwise plain building a distinctive silhouette against the churchyard trees.

Visitors are drawn to a few finer details: the decorative ironwork fittings on the outer door, apparently made to special commission, and, inside, a coloured glass mosaic set in the window above the chancel, which catches the light over the altar.

The churchyard itself has a notable connection: the Swedish poet and author Dan Andersson is buried at Lyvikens kyrkogård, making the chapel and its surrounding grounds a point of quiet pilgrimage for admirers of his work.
