In March 1946 the Lappträsk Chapel Foundation was formed. In 1948 the chapel was built after a plot of land had been parcelled off from the property of freeholder Oskar Larsson.
At the bishop's visitation to Karl Gustavs parish in May 1939, the village's main wish put forward was that a chapel should be built. However, the Second World War intervened, and it was only after the end of the war that the matter was taken up again.
On 11 March 1946 the Lappträsk Chapel Foundation was formed, with the purpose of erecting, and as owner holding and managing, a chapel. The foundation was administered by a board consisting of curate Sten Stenberg as chairman, together with members county councillor Einar Forsberg, freeholders Otto Nilsson, Oskar Nordkvist and Oskar Eklund, and elementary school teacher Herman Bäck.
After the men of Lappträsk village decided at a meeting on 24 March 1946 to transfer the assets available for the planned prayer house, it was decided that the timber from the old Kukkola schoolhouse should be sold. This sale raised 922.25 kronor. Together with a gift of 1,000 kronor from the church sewing circle, this became the village's first founding contribution to the chapel.
The board commissioned the architect Bertil Höök to produce drawings for the chapel. In June 1948 a proposal was presented, which the board then adopted. The chapel, 15.5 metres long and 8.5 metres wide, has between 175 and 200 seats if the gallery is included.
On 23 November 1948 the foundation received the deed of sale for a plot of land, Lappträsk 10:8, of 0.74 hectares, parcelled off from the property of freeholder Oskar Larsson, on which the chapel was subsequently built.
On the board's proposal, the diocesan chapter appointed vicar J. A. Degerman as chairman of the board on 18 December 1948, succeeding pastor Sten Stenberg, who had taken up the curacy in Fällfors on 1 May 1948.
Construction, which took place from 1949 to 1952, was largely carried out as voluntary day-labour by the villagers. Excavation of the foundation began on 28 March 1951. By the end of 1951 the bell tower had been completed. The church bell was mounted on 21 November 1951 by the bell foundry firm K. G. Bergholtz & Co.
Sunday 16 November 1952 became a great day in the village's history, when its chapel, the fruit of remarkable willingness to sacrifice, was consecrated for its purpose by Bishop Bengt Jonzon.
In 1957 the churchyard was consecrated by Bishop Ivar Hylander. On this occasion the bishop also changed the chapel's name to "Lappträsk kyrka". In 1979 a merger with Karl Gustavs parish was carried out, whereupon the Lappträsk Chapel Foundation ceased to exist.
