Kista is a district of north-western Stockholm, and the church occupies a central position on Kista torg, a square partly paved with small cobblestones and featuring a fountain. Nearby stand the shopping centre, a range of buildings housing a restaurant, library and service premises, the Ärvingeskolan school, and residential blocks of varying heights with light rendered façades.
Construction began in January 1977 and the church was inaugurated on 1 October 1978, to designs by the Hungarian-born architect Zoltán Bedecs (1932–2005). The church and parish hall form a single joined complex, standing apart from the surrounding buildings. Northwest of the church rises a freestanding bell tower on a tall concrete plinth, with a timber frame clad in diagonally set reddish-brown panelling; sources differ slightly on whether the tower and its cross were completed in 1978 or as late as 1984.
The building's plan is based on a Greek, equal-armed cross with chamfered corners, giving it an octagonal form, though this is not fully legible from the exterior since the church adjoins the parish premises on its eastern side. The chancel lies to the south, with main entrances to both church and parish hall facing the square to the north. Because the ground slopes from north to south, the building gains a basement storey on its southern side, which one source describes as containing a crypt shaped like an amphitheatre.,
Red brick walls rise above the parish premises, and the steeply pitched roof, clad in copper, extends in places into pointed angles supported on pillars of joined timber beams. A lantern, partly hidden by the roof, sits centrally and carries an open-framed cross above it. The church's windows include stained glass designed by Bedecs himself, and the font, also to his design, is cast in cement with a red brick base and a gilded octagonal bowl.
Outside the church hall hangs an old porridge bell (vällingklocka) from Kista gård, once used to summon farmhands and now rung for smaller weekday services; it was given to the parish on deposit by the farm's last farmer, Major Percival Holm. The church also contains an organ built in 1982 by A. Mårtenssons Orgelfabrik, with a case designed by the architect, and a smaller mechanical organ in the lower hall moved here in 1985 from Donsö kyrka, originally built in 1955.
