Järpås kyrka stands on a large sand ridge in Västergötland, in the Järpås parish of the Diocese of Skara. The present church was built in the early 1800s, replacing a medieval predecessor on the same site, and remains a notable rural landmark near Lidköping.

The current building dates from 1805–1806 (one source gives 1803), constructed in grey stone on the foundations of an earlier 12th-century church. It is a large, broad structure with a tower topped by a flat cupola, and its interior reflects the Neoclassical taste of the early 19th century. A major renovation in 1910, led by Axel Lindegren, reworked the interior in a Neo-Baroque style, during which an open gallery behind the altar was removed.

Inside, the nave floor is laid with old limestone gravestones, and the walls display funerary armorial plaques (begravningsvapen) commemorating local noble families, including members of the Oxe, Papegoja and Kalle families, dating from the late 17th and early 18th centuries.

One of the church's most intriguing features is a runestone built into the wall near the gable, inscribed with a memorial referring to the building of a bridge; its original location is unknown, though it may have stood between the present Orreslätt and the church hill. The stone was originally kept in the sacristy of the older medieval church.

The church also preserves older furnishings carried over from its predecessor, including a plain Romanesque limestone font and an acanthus-carved altarpiece dating from 1689, which was restored and re-erected in the early 20th century. A black velvet chasuble with silver cross and braid, dated 1789, is also among the historic textiles associated with the church.

Of the church's original bells, one medieval bell survives, though without any inscription; the larger bell was recast in the late 19th century. The organ, built in 1934, replaced an earlier 19th-century instrument and stands on the west gallery.
