Hjulsjö kyrka is a wooden parish church in Hjulsjö, part of the Hällefors-Hjulsjö parish in the Diocese of Västerås. Standing in the Örebro region, it is a modest but characterful timber building with a long history reaching back to the 1640s.

The church was built between 1643 and 1646 using horizontal log construction, with walls later clad in red-painted wooden shingles. Its original form was a simple long nave with a three-sided chancel to the east, a design typical of Swedish rural timber churches of the period.

The building was substantially altered over time. In 1732, north and south transepts were added, converting it into a cross-shaped church, and the interior was given a barrel-vaulted ceiling. A west tower with a curved cupola and clock was added in 1785, giving the church its present silhouette. A sacristy stands to the north of the chancel, and the roof is a hipped mansard form covered with tarred shingles.

Interior changes continued into the modern era. The enclosed box pews were replaced with open seating in 1892, then replaced again during a major 1952 restoration led by architect Gunnar Hållén, following proposals by county architect Ebbe Borg. That restoration aimed to recover the church's older appearance: walls were repainted, historic fittings had their original colour schemes restored, and the current open pews, in a traditional style, were installed. At the same time, the rectangular windows fitted earlier were replaced with pointed-arch openings to match the church's older character.

Among the furnishings, a Renaissance-style pulpit bears the date 1679 painted on its body, suggesting it is a survivor from the church's earlier decorative scheme. A wooden christening angel, holding a baptismal bowl, dates from the 18th century and is a charming example of folk ecclesiastical carving.

The church's organ history reflects the building's own layered story. An organ with 13 stops was built in 1884 by E. A. Setterquist & Son of Örebro and inaugurated that May. The present organ, with 19 stops, was installed in 1952 by A. Magnusson Orgelbyggeri of Gothenburg, but its case still incorporates the façade of the earlier 1884 Setterquist instrument, linking the two organs across nearly seven decades.
