Hjortsberga kyrka, standing beside one of Blekinge's largest Iron Age burial fields east of Ronneby, is among the province's oldest churches. Built in the early 13th century in late Romanesque style on the site of an earlier timber church, it replaced a wooden predecessor and retains a strongly medieval character.

The stone church consists of a rectangular nave with a narrower, straight-ended chancel, a sacristy to the north and a porch to the south, the interior chancel closing in an apse. Excavations have revealed the foundations of an earlier tower, and a 12th-century broad west tower is thought to have preceded the present building, though accounts differ on exactly how old the church's origins are, with some sources suggesting Romanesque features older than the 13th century. The whitewashed exterior with its stepped-arch windows and shingle-covered roofs still looks largely medieval, and small round-arched windows survive in the chancel's north and east walls.

Inside, the pulpit was made in 1684 by Åke Truedsson and painted six years later, its four panels depicting the Flood, the Nativity, the Crucifixion and the Resurrection. It has been moved at least twice over the centuries before reaching its current position. An hourglass on the pulpit, missing for many years, was bought back for the church at a local auction in 1930 by Countess Carola Wachtmeister. The altarpiece, dated 1745, is attributed to the locally born sculptor and painter Sven Segervall (also spelled Segerwall), commissioned to honour the parish and adorn the church.//
