Heliga Korsets kyrka (the Church of the Holy Cross) stands in a park setting of tall pines, oaks and birches in Kalmar. This is a modern church, consecrated in 1963, whose calm, spacious interior can seat around a hundred worshippers.

The church was consecrated on Whit Sunday 1963 by Bishop David Lindquist, to designs by the architect Rudolf Holmgren in a modernist style typical of Swedish church-building of the period. It was originally constructed as a chapel with an attached crematorium, and it was only in 1989, when the newly formed Heliga Korsets församling (Holy Cross parish) was established, that it became a full parish church.

The interior walls are faced in Öland limestone, giving the church a light, airy quality that is reinforced by tall windows to the south illuminating the chancel, which is positioned at the eastern end of the building. The free-standing altar sits within this bright, uncluttered space.

Several notable works of art furnish the church. A large cross on the chancel wall was created by the artist Erik Sand, while two depictions of the Virgin Mary can be found within the building: one in the Mary chapel by Eva Spångberg, and another at the front of the main church space by Allan Lindholm.

The organ, built in 1966 by the Danish firm Marcussen & Søn, is a mechanical instrument of thirteen stops across two manuals and pedal, and has since been fitted with a new façade.
