Grinstads kyrka, in southern Melleruds kommun in Dalsland, is reputed by local tradition to be the oldest church in the district, and is generally regarded as the best-preserved of the region's medieval brick churches. Its long history is still visible in its walls and furnishings.

The church is thought to have been built around the mid-13th century, with the western walls of the nave surviving from this original structure. It was extended eastward, gaining its present three-sided chancel, and a tower was added to the west in 1862 after an earlier porch was demolished; the tower has since developed a lean, attributed to poor foundations. A sacristy was added east of the chancel in 1939.

Inside, traces of different building periods remain visible. A niche on the south wall marks a blocked Romanesque window, while the north wall carries a medieval lime painting showing part of a labyrinth pattern, a stepped motif, and a consecration cross — a rare survival, as painted labyrinths of this kind are known from only a handful of Nordic churches. Loose sculpted brick fragments found in the church, including a face mask, have been linked to a tradition that the church was once dedicated to St Erik and served as a votive church, though this remains a matter of record rather than certainty.

The font, carved from soapstone and decorated with a pointed-lobed border and rope-moulding ornament, is dated to around the mid-13th century and ranks among the church's oldest furnishings, alongside a medieval bronze censer.

Later fittings include a Rococo pulpit made in 1774 by Erik Grund and an altarpiece of 1807 depicting Christ in Gethsemane, both painted by Benjamin Wall of Färgelanda. The pews, with cast-iron underframes from Bäckefors bruk, date from the 1880s. In the chancel lies a carved limestone gravestone commemorating a 17th-century incumbent, Compastor Fontelius.

The wider churchyard setting is also of interest, with two former vicarage buildings and older schoolhouses nearby, along with two unusual slate-roofed lychgates at the churchyard entrances.
