Götlunda kyrka stands around 12 km west of Arboga, between Örebro and Arboga in Västmanland. Though rebuilt in the mid-eighteenth century, the church retains traces of its medieval predecessor and holds several notable furnishings worth seeking out.

The present building dates largely from a major rebuilding completed in 1747, replacing a smaller and, by then, dark and old-fashioned medieval church from the 1400s. Work began with plans for restoration but soon became an almost entirely new construction in a contemporary Baroque style. Only the lower part of the tower and the western sections of the nave walls survive from the medieval structure, along with two probably late-medieval beams built into the tower walls, one of them apparently damaged by fire, possibly linked to lightning strikes recorded in 1766 and 1844. The nave kept its original width, so additional space was created by adding transepts to the north and south and lengthening the choir eastward.

The rebuilding was funded chiefly by cavalry captain Jakob Danckwardt-Lillieström, whose portrait still hangs in the church and whose family vault lies in a crypt beneath the choir; its original external entrance was bricked up in 1897. A further extensive restoration took place in 1896–97, when the previously whitewashed interior was decorated with ornamental ceiling and wall paintings by Edvard Bergh, and the galleries in the transepts were removed as the organ was relocated to a new western gallery.

Among the furnishings, the limestone font bears an inscription dating it to 1661; it was paid for and consecrated by the newly appointed vicar of Götlunda at the time. The pulpit, in Rococo style, dates from 1764 and retains its sounding board, a striking survival of eighteenth-century acoustic design, likened by some to an early public address system. Most of the altar furnishings date from the 1896–97 restoration, though the altarpiece itself, painted by court painter Lars Bolander, is earlier, from 1773.

A particularly unusual item is a 1640s oil painting by the Dutch artist Adam Horislamb, hanging in the north transept, depicting the five Platonic solids alongside a globe, with symbolic Hebrew and Latin lettering referencing the divine name. The south transept holds the coat of arms of Claes Danckwardt-Lillieström, a former governor of Malmöhus county buried in the church in 1689.

The organ has a layered history: an original instrument by Pehr Schiörlin dates from 1782, followed by an 1890 organ built by E A Setterquist & Son, funded by local donors. The current pneumatic organ was built in 1948 by Olof Hammarberg, incorporating the façade from the 1782 instrument, and has two manuals and 21 stops.
