The church was constructed of wood between 1864 and 1870 by the villagers of Gillhov, under the direction of master builder Johan Nordell from Gävle. It is a modest building, some 24 metres long, seating around 144 people.
The altarpiece was made by the sculptor Johan Edler the Younger, a craftsman known for church furnishings elsewhere in Sweden. The organ dates from 1894 and was built by the Östersund organ builder Anders Christian Anton Schuster.
The church has two bells, cast by N.P. Linderberg of Sundsvall in 1869 and 1874. Both carry inscriptions naming local clergy and churchwardens of the time, along with biblical verses, reflecting the close involvement of the parish community in the building's creation. The bells are now rung electrically rather than by hand.
