Fridene kyrka is a whitewashed parish church in western Hjo, Västra Götaland, whose plain rectangular exterior conceals a medieval tower and a history stretching back several centuries before its present form was built in 1805.

A stone church likely stood on this site as early as the 1100s or 1200s, with a rectangular nave and a narrower, straight-ended chancel to the east. Evidence for this comes from the surviving west tower, whose barrel-vaulted ground floor and spiral staircase built into the thickness of the wall are typical of early medieval construction, and from a depiction of the older church recorded in the 1600s.

In 1805 the medieval church was largely demolished and rebuilt to designs attributed to Abraham Niclas Edelcrantz, though the tower was retained and incorporated into the new building. The result is the church seen today: a long, straightforward nave with a straight east end, the older tower to the west, and a small sacristy to the north added in 1949. The exterior's spitzbogen (pointed-arch) window openings and whitewashed walls date from this 1805 rebuilding, while the tower's proportions, wall openings and shingled spire hint at its older origins.

The interior was substantially reworked during a 1949 restoration, led by architect Adolf Niklasson, which aimed to recover and emphasise the character of the early 1800s design rather than the medieval one. The nave is covered by a coved (mirror) vault ceiling from this period.

Among the church's furnishings, the font is the oldest surviving object, dating from the 1100s; it spent time in the churchyard before being conserved and returned indoors in 1946. The altarpiece and pulpit are contemporary with the 1805 rebuilding and are attributed to Edelcrantz himself, giving the church a coherent early nineteenth-century decorative scheme. The organ, with six stops, was built by Johan Nikolaus Söderling and installed in 1858.
