The church is located in central Mölndal on Baaz hill, the summit of which was blasted away and replaced with a park planting. The building was designed by the architect Adrian C. Peterson and is built in Neo-Gothic style in red brick. The church is built in a north-south direction, with the three-sided chancel to the north and the 52-metre-high spired tower to the south. The plan is a Latin cross. The ridge directly west of the church is called Kyrkåsen.
The church was built in 1887 and reopened after extensive renovation in March 2020. The current church replaced, in 1887, Fässberg's old church, a medieval church dating from the 13th century which stood where Fässberg's cemetery is located today.
