Färila kyrka stands in Färila, in Gävleborgs län, part of the Church of Sweden's Uppsala diocese. The present stone church, dating from the 1780s, replaced earlier medieval buildings on the same site, and its dramatic history includes a devastating fire and later reconstruction.

The parish of Färila is documented as far back as the 1300s, suggesting an early church may have stood here even before the first recorded building, a simple timber structure. This was succeeded in the 1400s by a stone church, which was extended to double its length in 1725 to accommodate a growing congregation. By 1781 the parish had decided the building was still too small, and work began on a new, more spacious stone church under the direction of Daniel Lundqvist and Johan Chr. Loëll. Sources differ slightly on the exact consecration date, with one giving 1783 and another 1787, but both agree the new church replaced the earlier medieval one.

Disaster struck in the summer of 1837, when a lightning strike set fire to the tower and roof. The blaze destroyed the newly fitted copper roof (only recently installed to replace the original wooden shingles) along with most of the timber fittings and furnishings inside, leaving only the stone walls standing. Some items of the interior were reportedly saved from the flames.

Reconstruction was overseen by Johan Ekman of Gävle, who reused the surviving walls but added the present sacristy, and who also designed the new pulpit and altarpiece structure. The rebuilt church was reconsecrated in the mid-1840s, with sources giving either 1846. The altarpiece, depicting the Transfiguration of Christ, was painted by Göran Sundin of Sunne in Jämtland and dates from this period of renewal.//The exterior today is rendered in a pale pink with white detailing, a colour scheme restored during renovations in 1965 and again reflected in later restoration work.

Inside, later additions include the pew arrangements and font from a 1938 restoration, alongside decorative painting in the chancel and sacristy by the artist Erik Stenholm, who returned for further commissions in the church over the years. A carved wooden sculpture of Mary and the Christ child, created in 1973 by the local Järvsö artist Per Nilsson-Öst, stands above the font altar.

Before the church acquired its tower, bells were housed in a separate wooden bell frame built in 1737 by Jon Eriksson of Delsbo. The lower section of this structure survived and was later adapted, from 1926, for use as a mortuary chapel. The church's organ has been rebuilt and altered several times since the fire, most recently in 1972, incorporating parts of earlier instruments alongside a case dating from 1843.
