Fågelö kapell stands on the island of Torsö, near Mariestad, surrounded by horse paddocks and cornfields. This modest wooden chapel by the Fågelöviken inlet is used mainly as a summer church, offering a quiet, rural counterpoint to Sweden's grander parish churches.

The present chapel was built in 1882 on land belonging to Fågelö farm, to designs by Albert Törnqvist. It is a simple timber structure with a tower, a rectangular nave and a three-sided chancel to the east, with a sacristy attached to the north side of the chancel.

It replaced an earlier chapel on the same site, built between 1698 and 1703, which was demolished when the new building went up. That in turn had succeeded a medieval chapel dedicated to Saint Peter and the Virgin Mary. The site of these older buildings lies about 500 metres northwest of the current chapel, where the old churchyard remains enclosed and marked with a memorial stone.

Inside, a few older furnishings survive from the chapel's predecessors. An oil painting dates from the eighteenth century, as do a set of apostle figures that once decorated the pulpit; these have since been moved to the wall above the sacristy door. The pulpit itself dates from 1882, contemporary with the current building, while the font was made later, in 1927. A votive ship, a traditional maritime offering found in many Swedish coastal and lakeside churches, was donated to the chapel in 1948.

The chapel seats around ninety people and has historically hosted informal summer concerts during the holiday season, reflecting its role as a seasonal place of worship rather than a year-round parish church.
